Since its introduction, the R-F-T CU-29 "Copperhead" has proven itself equally useful on vocals, acoustic instruments, guitar amps, drums, and anything in between. With a wide array of sources it shines on, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustikhas developed the CU-29 "Copperhead" Stereo Set.

The Stereo Set comes in a custom locking flight case that carries both sets of cables, shock mounts, microphones in wooden boxes, and a dual-channel power supply unit. This newly designed dual-channel supply can power one or both of the microphones at the same time. This upgraded power supply is a superior regulated design with a slow-ramping heater voltage to ensure vacuum tube longevity.

The amplifier in the CU-29 "Copperhead" features a New Old Stock (NOS)TELEFUNKEN 6AK5W vacuum tube, Lundahl LL1935 output transformer, and a single-membrane version of the TK67 large diaphragm capsule used in the AK-47 MkII. Each of these components is rigorously tested in our laboratory prior to installation. Sonically, the CU-29 "Copperhead" is a remarkably hi-fidelity microphone that provides a warm, clear low end complemented by a smooth, detailed high end.

Each component for the two microphones is hand-selected for matched pairs. The capsules have matched frequency responses, the tubes have matched gain and noise specs, and the amplifier circuits have matched gain and frequency response. You can be sure that you will get identical responses from each microphone for the most accurate stereo imaging. With the CU-29 "Copperhead" Stereo Set, you have twice the versatility of the single unit for nearly any application.

Each CU-29 Stereo Set comes complete with an M900S dual power supply, 2x M801 25' dual-shielded TX-7 tube microphone cables, 2xM700 elastic shock mount, 2x wooden microphone boxes and a locking flight case.

Because TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's Diamond Series microphones are meticulously made to historic detail with no expense spared, that also makes them rather expensive for the average small studio or home enthusiast. With this in mind, the R-F-T Series of microphones was created. The R-F-T line of tube condenser microphones utilizes American designed electronics in conjunction with New Old Stock vacuum tubes and standardized parts from overseas manufacturers. Just like the Diamond Series, all R-F-T microphones are hand-built in our South Windsor, CT facility. With this line, we have been able to provide a lower cost alternative to more expensive microphone systems, without sacrificing the qualities that you would expect from a TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphone. With the CU-29 "Copperhead" we went even further to ensure quality while working toward the goal of providing TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik craftsmanship that just about everyone can afford. No detail was left unattended. Specific attention was given to circuit board layout, with countless revisions done to optimize current flow and directness of traces. Each component was experimented with and individually selected for the best sonic and electronic qualities. Extra consideration was put on keeping high impedance lines as short as possible to maximize efficiency and minimize unwanted noise. Lastly, a wide array of output transformers was experimented with to provide the most open and sonically pleasing response. This fine-tuned amplifier design found in the R-F-T CU-29 "Copperhead" features a NOS 6AK5W TELEFUNKEN tube and a Lundahl LL1935 output transformer. Being a "cardioid only" microphone, the CU-29 "Copperhead" employs a single-membrane version of the large diaphragm capsule used in the AR-51 and AK-47 MkII microphones, which undergoes rigorous testing in our laboratory prior to installation. Further quality control is ensured again during final testing and burn-in of the microphone, all to give you the ease of many trouble free years of use with your R-F-T microphones. Sonically, the CU-29 "Copperhead" is a remarkably hi-fidelity microphone with a "present" but not "harsh" character, with clarity and detail, but entirely devoid of the upper mid-range bite usually found in microphones in this price range. The microphone provides a warm, clear low end complemented by a smooth high end, with a delicate and intimate "air" to it, typically found only in microphones many times the price. Because it is not a "re-creation" (or even a variation on a theme) the end result is a detailed yet unique tone, with character and its own rich sonic texture. The CU-29 "Copperhead" was developed from the ground up in our South Windsor, Connecticut facility by our in-house design team and the aid of some of the industry's most knowledgeable and respected consultants.
