OSA Frequently Asked Question Page

"Nathan at Atlas Pro Audio was kind enough to send me a pair of L3's for evaluation. We did a shoot out that included 1073's 1081's 512's and the [OSA] L3's. The L3's were the unanimous choice. They had a nice big extended low end and they were fast so there didn't have to be a decision or sacrifice of warmth verses transient response. I'm not sending them back. Excellent work Dale and thanks Nate for your help."

-----Rob Schnapf (Beck, Foo Fighters, Moby, Elliot Smith, Rancid)

"I had to touch base with you and tell you how much use im getting out of my pre's (i have the l3 and a few a's)... the other day i was tracking at oceanway in hollywood, and with all the gear we had there we STILL ended up using the L3 on bass, and the A series on vocals. On guitars and bass the L3 manages to sound absolutely ginormous, without being muddy at all. it's difficult to explain without actually hearing it for yourself, but it's almost too big, which is a great problem to have. I cant wait for the compressor, and can only hope you build an eq that sounds as good as your pre's to fill out the rack."

ABOUT OSA:

OSA Preamps are modular units that plug into an OSA powered rack ala API 500 series architecture. OSA Preamps are API (tm) 500 series compatible! OSA currently makes two size racks, the Power Rack holds 11 units, the Track Pack holds 8 units. You will need one of the racks in order to power your modules, the rack also provides your XLR microphone inputs and outputs located on the rear of the rack. OSA racks are also compatible with API (tm) 500 Series modules! OSA racks and modules are compatible with Brent Averill's racks. OSA modules will work in API (tm) 500 series racks (yes, also the 6 space)! OSA currently makes four stellar transformer based preamps to choose from, the MP-1L, the MP-1A, and the MP-1C, and the new MP1-L3! Modular is the way to go for many engineers looking for different sounding pres; those who want variety look no further. OSA pres are the perfect solution, buy only the number of pres you need now, and add more any time! They are so easy to install, you can fill a whole rack in less than 5 minutes!

Check out the new OSA mic preamp, the MP1-L3 aka "Big Daddy".

    MP1-L3 without DI.....

Old School Audio introduces the MP1-L3 aka The "Big Daddy" microphone preamplifier and instrument DI for the industry standard API (TM) form factor. It utilizes 3 transformers, including the Lundahl massive LL7903. The MP1-L3 is the latest addition to the OSA family, and like its nick name there is nothing small about it. This pre-amp gives your low end a place to call home. The midrange is like no other, and the top end is tight and crisp. It's so good you'll tell your clients "whose your daddy"!
    MP1-C a.k.a. "The Vintage":

    List Price: $735.00
    Atlas Price: $550.00

The MP1-C is OSA's "Vintage" model. Faithful to the design practices of the golden age of audio, OSA was able to design an input transformer that captures the fatness and solidity of early designs. This preamp is the one to add girth to your guitars and drums, while preserving the rich, 3 dimensional detail of the upper mids and highs. The MP1-C will bring you back to the glory days of rock n' roll, it's got color and crunch galore.

    MP1-A with DI.....
    List Price: $735.00
    Atlas Price: $550.00

Old School Audio introduces the MP1-A, a low noise, high gain, transformer in and out microphone preamplifier for the industry standard API (TM) form factor.

The MP1-A was OSA's first product offering. Based on a custom split primary input transformer, we experimented with different winding styles and core material until the sound was tailored into a palette that is pleasingly three dimensional to the ears, and effortless to work with. Clear and open in the top end, rich and liquid in the midrange, and full and deep in the bottom end characterize this model.

    MP1-L "The Mutant":
    List Price: $775.00
Atlas Price: $575.00 (we make 'em standard line level on the 1/4" input)

Also can be ordered with DI.
    MP1-L with DI.....
    List Price: $850.00
    Atlas Price: $625.00

The MP1-L is popularly known at OSA as the "Mutant". Based on the incredible Lundahl 1538XL input transformer, this mic pre will rock your world. Lundahl is the one company who has advanced the field of transformer design into the new millennium. The spine rattling bottom end is huge, round, and full. the midrange is so present that you will swear that it can’t be solid state, and the top is elegant and silky.
