American Classic- Set your Input transformer selection to Iron and Nickel output (Nickel output is an extra option and must be manually changed on the 500 series), Set the impedance low, between 300 and 1200 ohms. The Iron transformer will give you more mid emphasized tones. For API(tm) style: set to Iron in, Iron out, set impedance between 300-600 range, start at 300 and go up to 600 if needed, and use +THD make sure to increase gain about 8 clicks to compensate for padding. This sound is pretty well known. For Quad 8 Style: Iron in, Nickel Out (Nickel output is an extra option and must be manually changed on the 500 series), Impendance 3000+ ohms, (no +THD). |
British Vintage- Set your Input transformer selection to Iron, and Iron core output. For 1272-ish style: Use +THD and set to 300 impedance. Reset your gain to be at least 8 clicks higher to compensate for the +THD padding. (Juggernaut Twin comes with FAT button which was designed to give more low end that you would find on the 1272 type pres) For 1073 style: Use +THD, set the impedance between 3000 and 4000 ohms. Reset your gain to be at least 8 clicks higher to compensate for the +THD padding. For Helios style: Nickel in, Iron Out, Impendance 4000-6000, +THD (always increase gain 8-10 clicks when using +THD). |
Modern- Set your Input transformer selection to Nickel and Nickel output (Nickel output is an extra option and must be manually changed on the 500 series). Set the impedance between 4000 and 10,000 ohms. Nickel has more top and bottom frequencies, lots of detail. There is a wide range of preamps being manufactured today, but of them, the ones that do use Class A discrete circuits that are similar to what you get when using a Juggernaut Twin, two come to mind, those being the John Hardy and Crane Song pres. For Modern Clean style: Nickel in, Nickel out, Impendance 2000-4000 ohms, no +THD. |
Everywhere in between- with the Juggernaut preamp you have the freedom and flexibility of choice.
